Meet The Crew

THE CAPTAINS

Captain Erik: xxxxx Erik started Extended Horizons in 1983 with 2 sets of dive gear and a lot of youthful energy. After teaching off the beach for 3 years, the business expanded to our first boat "Extended Horizons," which ran almost daily to Lanai for 8 years. After 11 years of hard work and vast experience in boating, it became evident to Erik that the business had to grow. Extended Horizons I was retired in June of 1994 to make way for a new boat, Extended Horizons ll. Custom built specifically to Erik's design, she is a dedicated diving vessel, which quickly become the standard on Maui. Erik is still diving and captaining Extended Horizons II, and his passion for diving and the environment show's through even after a quarter century. As soon as it was available, Extended Horizons invested in fast effecient modern diesels that burn 100% recycled vegetable oil, instead of fossil fuels. This conversion goes a long way to making us carbon neutral. Erik has once again pioneered the way for West Maui dive boats... making Extended Horizons THE ONLY LAHAINA DIVE BOAT being run on 100% biodiesel!

mystery diver

Captain Loren:
Loren is a 100 Ton Captain and Dive Instructor. As our newest team member, he brings with him a wealth of knowledge and experience in the dive business. Loren started his dive carreer right her on Maui over 20 years ago. He has worked as a Captain and Instructor in Florida, the Caribbean, Bahamas and Honduras - with experience leading everything from Introductory dives to shark dives! He is glad to be back on Maui where he started his wonderfull discovery of the underwater world and loves to share his experience and enthusiasm of the sport with our guests.

CaptTodd

Captain Todd:
Captain Todd has over 15 years experience in the dive industry in Hawaii, and may be our most titled staff member: PADI SCUBA Instructor, EFR Instructor, IANTD Rebreather Instructor, SNUBA Regional Program Coordinator, and USCG 100 ton boat captain. Todd is proud of the 65,000 people he has helped to breathe compressed air underwater (actually closer to 63,180. He's been known to exaggerate a little). He is a level-headed naturalist when underwater, and not nearly as cool as he thinks he is above the surface. A self described fish nerd and dive geek, his enthusiasm and knowledge makes him a valuable asset to our team.

DIVE GUIDES
Victoria

Victoria:
Victoria has been a valuable part of the Extended Horizons team since 1999, providing a safe, fun and educational atmosphere for our visitors. She is both a PADI & SDI certified instructor as well as a published underwater photographer, who's pictures are showcased throughout our website, and on our t-shirts! As a certified marine naturalist, Victoria has a vast knowledge of Hawaiian ecosystems and marine life. With a background in experiential therapy work, Victoria's compassion and dedication to creating a deeper understanding and appreciation for our marine environment is evident in each of her interactions, on every dive. Victoria recently earned her Captain's license, and can occassionally be seen driving Extended Horizons II... when we can talk her out of the water!

Maren: xxxxxMaren is originally from Berkeley, California. After years of competitive swimming, staying underwater for longer seemed like the next logical step. At age 19, she was certified at UC Santa Cruz, in the frigid waters of Monterey Bay. Maren realized even though defrosting was required, she had caught the diving bug. In 2003, an amazing dive vacation to Hawaii’i and a little inspiration from a fellow banana slug diver prompted a return trip to Maui the next year, to become an instructor and move on island. Maren has worked for Extended Horizons for 3 years, and is an expert on Hawaiian marine life. She is nitrox certified and a professional underwater photographer. Some of the photos throughout our website are taken by Maren. Her love for learning about the ocean is evident in the way she shares, takes her time underwater and connects with fellow divers. She always accompanied by her trusty BC buddy, Mona the monkey.

GwenCesere

Gwen:
Originally from Vermont, after receiving a BA in Psychology from a small liberal arts college in New York, Gwen embarked on a cross-country road trip, which eventually lead her to Maui's beaches! Gwen is a PADI Instructor, a professional underwater photographer, and has been a valuable team member at Extended over the past 6 years. Her versatility means you may find her leading dives, taking pictures, or even taking phone reservations... always with a smile! Gwen is close to receiving her Captain's license, so some day soon you may also see her behind the wheel of Extended Horizons II!

Capt.Chris

Chris:
Chris
started out at Extended Horizons in 1998 as a NAUI/PADI Scuba Instructor with specialties as a scientific diver, NITROX Instructor, free diving Instructor and professional underwater photographer. He left Maui
and completed a Master's Degree in marine biology from Texas A&M University - Corpus Christi. After a brief stint working as a marine mammal observer and marine ecologist on seismic research vessels, he returned to the islands, and attained his Captains license. Chris has been driving & diving for us for the past three years, and is an expert on our Hawaiian waters (over 3,000 dives). When not taking pictures underwater, Chris has his own photography business, Island Girl Pinups.

scotty

Scotty: xxxxxScotty has lived on Maui for over 20 years and has been leading dives for over 18 years. Scotty is a PADI Scuba Instructor, and has over 13 specialties such as Emergency First Responder Instructor, Handicap Instructor, a Mix Gas Blender, and professional marine photographer, just to name a few. Some of the photo's throughout our website are taken by Scotty. Scotty's humor and excitement makes every dive trip a blast. Scotty is a natural underwater and has a great eye for spotting rare species. His hope is that after someone dives with him they leave happy, with more knowledge of Hawaiian marine life, increased ecological sensitivity and that they are a better diver.
